Understanding Credit: In so many ways it is an art form. Individualized to each consumer. And everyone knows something or knows someone who knows something - that is invariably very inaccurate. And with the majority of us subject to a FICO scoring application, which is a proprietary matrix/rubric of credit utilization characteristics, good credit can be an enigma.

Best things to aid a "basics" discussion is to use the credit education tab of the myfico.com website coupled with FCRA and FACTA documents from the FTC.gov website. It helps to build a better picture of what goes into creating a desirable score, how it impacts rates and affordability ratios in underwriting, and provides good insights into what rights we have as consumers when trying to get out of a hole.
