Well, we've been at this for a couple of years now. It's time to think about what we need to change, what we need to improve, and how to move forward with how we provide services. What constructive ideas do folks have for the continuing improvement of the training we offer?

Ok, I clearly do not understand well the difference bewteen a "group" and a "discussion" on this network. Should I remove the inadvertant new discussion and repost the question here ? Or do we want several threads simultaneously ?

I've take a number of the 'green courses' a few were pretty good, e.g. the lead based hazards class and the more recently the greening your portfolio class and several others were lacking.

The most common mistake in the courses that I've taken that were. . .bad, was that they were not 'tuned' to their audience. I think that rather than looking at the green track like the other tracks it might better serve us if green courses were more delibrately integrated toward peoples duties.

So, green training for developers, OR property managers OR construction specialists might be useful. I also think that course based around existing national standards such as LEED or the enterprise green communities standard would be great.

That being said, the best courses, the lead clas and the greening your portfolio class were broad,m but had something specific to deliver which seems like good way to operate as well.

Hey Max,

We do try to tailor the classes to specific disciplines. For instance - we have CP 240, Greening Housing Rehab (the target audience is obvioulsy rehab specs) and CP 241 - Residential Green Building which is aimed at new construction and targets construction managers. Some courses, such as CP 199 - Green Building Science, are meant to be more generic as the topics are applicable across the board to all functional areas. A course of this nature is also presented as a foundation level course so folks (board members, senior management, etc) who want to have a better understanding of the subject matter will attend the course and walk away with sound, basic knowledge on the topic.

We are also in the process of talking with USGBC and NAHB about doing workshop presentations on their certification and accreditation processes. I do not think either of these warrant courses at this time but do feel we need to inform folks on what they offer and where they can find information on each organization. I hope to have these workshops set up for the DC NTI in December. Hopefully you will be in town and able to attend.

I think you can use the CP 199 for the LEED Green Associate certification. However, I do think it is necessary to coordinate the green classes with an industry recognized certification so that it helps to improve the credentials of those attending classes. Just informing people about them is not enough, you can find information online. As an educational institute it would be better if you could get LEED to use your classes for one of their certifications like they do other training institutes.

Thanks Vince. At this time, I know non-profits do not have access to RD's loan origination software, UniFi. I'm not sure how much we've discussed the issues of access to CAIVRS in the 502 course.
