HI Rural Practitioners! When we started this communication process a month or so ago, there weren't that many of us. Now it looks as though we are up to 21 members of this group. Way to go! I am pleased to see more professionals signing up all the t…
Let me know if there are opportunities for me to facilitate training for rural practitioners. I would be happy to share what we have done to "train" our local and county government officials as well as what we have done to explain urban/rural differ…
Dale, your past experiences sound exactly like what my organization does so we can meet the needs of underserved populations in our five county region. I serve as Executive Director on a volunteer basis because the organization cannot afford to pay…
Dale, from my experiences here in the southern Great Plains, rural community development entities and similar organizations provide a multitude of services. The issues that I know create the greatest amount of difficulty are with housing development…
Paul, I would be happy to write an article which describes our methods of educating government agency staffers. I can talk about government level staff from the city and county level all the way to state level and federal agency staff. We have engag…
Paul, I totally get that federal agencies have been forced to reduce program delivery trainings and number of staff as a result of fed cut-backs. In the Oklahoma and Southern Kansas region, neither USDA or HUD has been very effective in devising met…
If NeighborWorks would develop content which is especially directed toward the rural practitioner that would be a great step toward bringing programmatic issues to the forefront of program delivery in rural America. While program regs apply to all p…
Hi Folks, I appreciate the commentary going on with this forum. Rural practitioners need to communicate and share ideas and solutions--thank you Neighborworks for giving us a good place to do that without having to travel. Lets keep talking everyone…
Hi Lee Anne, I am not sure what the content of the 502 course involves, but would be happy to look it over. Rural practitioners operate in isolation in many respects and need guidance from federal and state agencies about how to conduct programs des…
Hi Paul, I believe that it is past time for our institutions of higher education to take a more formalized stance toward the continued problems and issues which are facing rural America. While I realize that some rural regions of the country are doi…
Hi John, thank you for the information. I will look at the Cornell model and maybe we can chat about it more. I am trying to get the Oklahoma State Regents and the various institutions to see how these collaborations can be effective for community i…

I was raised in the Texas Panhandle and have a long line of relatives who starved out in the dust bowl in the Oklahoma Panhandle. Also, in my wilder days was occassionally seen at dances at Vici.
My real passion these days is the salvation and survival of small communities. My background is varied, but it seems my skills are leading me in this direction. I am so eager to learn from you and the others! Thanks for accepting my invitation.
