Nice. When I was involved in community garden organizing, we had monthly informal gatherings of all the organizers, and I'm still convinced it was a critical piece of our success in Boston!
There is very limited availability for non-NeighborWorks organizations to participate in the CLI, generally only open to groups that have some type of partnership relationship with NeighborWorks. These groups had to be recommended by one of the Neig…
I used to be very involved in community garden organizing in Boston. We found that one easy way to reduce vandalism was in choice of plants. Most vandals are more likely to pull out flowers, and showy vegies like tomatoes or melons. Vegies that grow…
What a great reading list everybody's put together here! One I would add is Malcolm Gladwell's Tipping Point. While not specific to community development, it's an interesting analysis of how change happens within communities (geographic, virtual, or…
I agree we in community development have much to learn from the international development world!

Good memory. i started here immediately after grad school, and just celebrated my year anniversary. I've been fortunate with my timing, as the organization is seriously rebuilding and we have excellent leadership. I've had the opportunity to get a lot of hands on experience...and quickly have learned there's not enough time in the day. I'm lobbying for some orgs in Indy to join NeighborWorks, so we'll see how successful I can be. Hope all is going well for you.
Nate
I'm so glad to have helped out! I've added you as an administrator, so you can start to test it out whenever you're ready. It's been a pleasure working with you and Bernadette!
I second Sarah -- also, I've been hearing some NSP grantees say, more or less, "we have interest but none of the people interested can qualify for a mortgage", and they describe that as a lending problem. To me, that sounds more like a marketing pro…

I like Home Makeover. And, I like adding free architectural, landscaping and decorating assistance with the loan to help homeowners choose high-impact investments and maximize the fixed costs of bringing a contractor out. Geneva, NY offers free arch…
Thanks Vince. At this time, I know non-profits do not have access to RD's loan origination software, UniFi. I'm not sure how much we've discussed the issues of access to CAIVRS in the 502 course.
