Ron Dwyer-Voss What is a Community Organizer?

With the candidacy and election of Barack Obama, there has been unprecedented attention to this job title over the past 18 months. Sarah Palin implied that a communty orgnizer was an activist without "real responsibilities." This week NPR featured a Marvin Rogers, a young, African-American and self proclaimed community organizer trying to build a political career as a southern black Republican. Others have been forced to make other decisions, like give up their home, car or other valuable objects. However, we all know some good can come out of this and that good is the creation (re-creation) of the walkable community. How might this happen? After all, the "walkable commu… Continue

Leigh Lester Holmes Has the Tax Credit Been Effective? You bet your bottom dollar it has. But is the consumer better off?

The Mortgage Banker’s association has reported a 17% rise in mortgage applications this past week alone. Of that 17% rise, 9.5 was for new mortgages. The word is out! A major concern I have as a housing counselor is, are we going to end up back where we started. Rates are low, the tax credit is available and new homebuyers are eager to take advantage of the b… Continue
